Postdoctoral Researchers

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Dequina Nicholas in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine depending on timing and availability of funding.

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and a recent graduate with a PhD or MD/PhD degree with strong academic training in cell biology, immunology, metabolism, endocrinology, signaling or metabolic related diseases. Areas of study available include:

1) Immune regulation of female reproduction
2) Lipid antigen presentation in type 2 diabetes
3) Links between inflammation and polycystic ovary syndrome

Requirements:
• Two publications in a PubMed indexed journal
• Research experience working with animals, flow cytometry, single cell sequencing / analysis is preferred but not required
• Proven track record of troubleshooting and problem solving
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects in and bring projects to completion
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Willingness to learn new approaches and techniques
• Collaborative approach to science

Graduate Students

The Nicholas lab accepts master’s students from the MSBT, MSBTM, and MCCB graduate programs. Please contact Dr. Nicholas if interested in doing a research Thesis in the Nicholas Lab.

If you are interested in joining the lab as a graduate student, please contact Dr. Nicholas to schedule a rotation during Winter or Fall quarter. The Nicholas lab does not offer rotations during Spring and Summer quarter with the exception of Summer MD/PhD rotations.

Undergraduate Students

The Nicholas lab is currently full and has no openings for undergraduate researchers. Feel free to fill out the form in case an availability opens up.

Students who are interested in participating in the lab must meet the following requirements:

Minimum time commitment: 1 academic year
Minimum number of hours: 8 hrs/wk, no less than 4 hours per block
Minimum GPA: 3.0

High School Students

The Nicholas lab does not accept high school student interns outside of structured research programs. UCI hosts two summer research experiences that allow training in the Nicholas Lab for high schoolers. Please apply if interested.
